REHABILITATION - PHYSIOTHERAPY

Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine is the medical specialism concerned with diagnosing, assessing, preventing and treating disability aimed at facilitating, maintaining or returning as much functional capacity and independence as possible. The area of action encompasses patients with disorders relating to the locomotor system, neurological, childre and development, vascular and lymphatic system disorders, cardiorespiratory, pelvic floor and communication issues, etc.

The fundamental objective of Asunción Klinika’s Rehabilitation Service is to offer a health resource dedicated to preventing, diagnosing, assessing and treating possible deficits or alterations of the locomotor system, nervous and respiratory system that may be detected both in inpatients in any of the units of this hospital, as well as outpatients who are susceptible to improving through our action.

The service is made up of a rehabilitation physician and a Functional Physiotherapy Unit which includes two coordinators and a team of more than twenty physiotherapists who have five comprehensive rehabilitation gymnasiums available for them to use.  Asunción Klinika’s Rehabilitation service also has a home care area.

FUNCTIONAL PHYSIOTHERAPY UNIT

The Functional Physiotherapy Unit enables the streamlining of the service to the patient, empowering the figure of the physiotherapist who can deal with those processes they are able to take on without the prior intervention of the Rehabilitation specialist. 

 

The Unit follows the current trends that are already being implemented in Osakidetza, where the physiotherapists take on more of a leading role in the patient's care treatment. It hinges on the figure of the coordinators, who welcome the patient, once they are referred by the specialist or Primary Care, and they take care of the prescriptions, treatment and the final report which is sent to the prescribing physician. All of this, of course, occurs under the supervision of the Rehabilitation physician.
